Six Flags America does not have the greatest collection of roller coasters out there. In fact, it is easily one of the weakest of the Six Flags parks. However, Superman: Ride of Steel is a solid ride that would be a good fit at any park.
Theming
Unfortunately, Six Flags is not known for their theming which is disappointing because they own the DC characters. Basically, the most theming you’re going to find here is the sign, a Superman logo painted on the ground, and a gift shop named after the Daily Planet where you can see your photo.
Other than that, the track is red and the support beams are blue. The queue also has no theming. It’s hard to critique Six Flags rides for theming because Six Flags never puts much focus on its theming anyway.
Ride Experience
The actual ride experience is really good. The ride has a max height of 208 ft and a max speed of 73 mph. These are pretty good stats. The first drop is exciting and the build-up to the drop gives a nice sense of anticipation. Since it is in the back of the park, you get a lot of good views of the park.
After the first drop, the ride does a good job of keeping its speed. The best part of the ride is the ejector air time moments which this ride provides a lot of. The cars feature only lap bars, which allows you to experience as much airtime as possible.
The lap bars are comfortable, so they don’t hurt you when you get airtime. My favorite part is when the ride goes through some straight track and then goes directly into a hill, providing a lot of ejector air time as you go over it. The last three camelback hills also give a lot of airtime before you pull into the station.
The most unique thing about this ride is that it features two very long, and very wide helixes. While these are unique to this ride, they do last for a bit too long. It does kill a little bit of the momentum of the ride since it just turns in one direction for about 15 seconds each. It does build up some speed but it does seem to be excessive.
Final Verdict
Superman: Ride of Steel is easily the best ride in the park. It serves as the staple of the park, which makes sense because it is easily the only rollercoaster that is really worth traveling to this park for. It is also the only ride in the park that I will gladly ride multiple times in a row. It isn’t the best hypercoaster I’ve been on, but it is still pretty good.
Final Grade: A-
Suggested wait time: 15 minutes (Six Flags America typically has no lines anyways)
The Review
Superman: Ride of Steel
Superman: Ride of Steel does contain some elements that go on for too long, but its airtime and fast speed make it a worthwhile coaster to check out.
